All right let’s do this!
For those of ya’ll who don’t know me my name is Oriana. I am the founder of Xolo Books - an online and pop-up bookstore dedicated to decolonizing your reading habits and promoting diversity in literature.
Bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.
I mean I did go MIA for some time.
Anyways! Why am I here?
When I first started Xolo Books it was still the pandemic times, and the store as well as my content have really evolved since then. I predominantly started out making videos on TikTok and shifting to other platforms like Instagram and YouTube. But I haven’t posted any new video content in months. Without sugarcoating it I was overwhelmed and just stopped caring about promoting books on social media.
The pandemic was a really tough time, and Xolo Books helped me get through so much of it. This community of folks who love books helped me get through the darkest moments of the pandemic. TikTok was a wonderful space for me to connect with fellow readers, bookstore owners, and Latina entrepreneurs.

But once we started to get version 2 of the Trump administration personally things got really dark and bleak. It was so hard to focus, to read, to make content. And so for my own well being I had to step away from social media and find my new normal.
All that to say I’m trying to give this another shot. My therapist encourages me to reframe all or nothing thinking and to just take things bit by bit and step by step.
Try. Evaluate. Try again.
So hopefully you will see me talking about some fantastic books that we have available to buy at the store and I’m also going to open it up to talk about things like movies, tv shows, other forms of narrative story telling that I think are worth promoting and talking about because again times are bleak out there. And diverse media is king of dwindling away. So we have to hype up the ones we do see and enjoy.

And of course a big thank you to everyone who continues to support the store, visit our events, be a member on Patreon, subscribe to our channel, follow us on socials. It means a lot it’s what keeps the ball rolling here. Even when I feel like I don’t have the energy to keep going I’m glad you all are still there championing and supporting us. It means the world.
I promise I haven’t forgotten about you. I’m doing my best. I’m just a girl.
